Sources/2021 - Redundant Radioactive Source

Magnox has a number of redundant radioactive sources across 11 of its nuclear sites (Bradwell is excluded) which require disposal. These sources are both sealed and unsealed radioactive sources and range in activity levels from redundant smoke detectors up to High Activity Sealed Sources (HASS). Some of the sources are depleted uranium (DU), including shielding containers for sources. In addition to the relatively small quantities of DU mentioned above, Harwell has approximately 10 tonnes of DU that also requires disposal.
