Title attributed to the contract: Industrial Reliability and Performance Improvement – Energy monitoring pilot
Description:
Sellafield Ltd (SL) are a large consumer of energy across the main SL site (Seascale) and satellite offices. SL have a responsibility to reduce energy usage and the carbon footprint of the energy used, whilst maintaining value for money to the UK tax payer. Various activity is conducted regarding energy monitoring across the site (and satellite offices) by SL, however SL want to make improvements to the way energy demands at enterprise level are managed to enable greater optimisation of energy generation, distribution and . The main aim is therefore to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy demand as a result of improving how current usage is measured (and analysed). This specific proposal will concentrate on electricity, however in the future there is the potential to include steam and other energy sources. Without a more comprehensive understanding of where, when and how much electricity is being used it will not be possible to fully optimise the supply and distribution network. Therefore, equipment, including temporary and / or permanent metering, to measure the usage will be installed as appropriate across the site. It is recognised that there may be a disruption to supply to enable the installation of equipment. Targeted facility improvements will be delivered based on the assessment of energy usage and losses (e.g. insulation or equipment replacement) to improve energy efficiency. SL will deliver demonstrable improvement in efficiency to support overall electricity usage and carbon reduction goals. In response to the above, the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) programme at SL has identified a need to develop energy monitoring capabilities underpinned by the attached requirements.
